As you drive east, from Princeton, on the Crowsnest Hwy (3). you will come upon a delightful little town called Hedley. Turn off Hwy 3, near the Nickel Plate Gas Bar & Restaurant, and take in Hedley's colourful gold mining history.
Visit the Hedley Museum, on the corner of Daly & Haynes, where the Hedley Heritage Society showcases the towns interesting mining history. Admission is by donation and supports the work of the Heritage Society. While at Hedley Museum, relax in the air conditioned tea room over some refreshments.
Plan to take in the walking tour and view Hedley's heritage buildings, some of the more prominent house the Hedley Country Market, the Hitching Post Restaurant, the Post Office, and the Mascot Gold Mine Tour Office.
If you are up to something more challenging, plan to stay the day and go on the Mascot Mine tour. The tour bus climbs 1000 meters above the valley floor where you will descend more than 100 metros by stair to the portal level of the historic Mascot Gold Mine buildings which are perched high on top the mountain overlooking Hedley. Well worth the time & effort! While at the tour office be sure to take in their interpretive center where you will view scale models of the town and mine, local native artifacts, and a photo gallery.
Enjoy a meal at one of Hedley's eateries: The Gold Dust Pub, Hitching Post Restaurant, Nickel Plate Restaurant, and Wild Thyme & Grinds Bistro; all offer fine food and interesting atmospheres.
Be sure to wander through local gift and antique shops: The Hedley Trading Post, Mountain Mist Gift Shop, the Vintage Verandah, and last but not least The Incurable Collector, you will be sure to find that keepsake, collectible or gift item you are looking for.
Local accommodations include the Colonial Inn, Gold House B&B, and the Mascot Manor B&B...each one offers relaxing hospitable atmospheres in elegantly decorated historic buildings. The area also offers a variety of RV parks and campgrounds.
